Situated at Teluk Jawa, Masai along the beach of
the Straits of Johor lies a traditional kelong alfresco styled
seafood place whereby in comparison to places like "Taman
Sentosa" would be somewhere less raved about. Unlike in Singapore where we
usually have our seafood in a somewhat comfortable environment having the
aircon blasting above our heads, at Todak dining on wooden stilts with natural
breeze and a sunset on the background is something worth the experience aside
the main purpose...FOOD!
As its name has it "Orang Asli", which doing
a little search on the best buddy "Google" would pop out the
meaning - (lit. "original people", "natural
people" or "aboriginal people" in Malay) they are
the indigenous people and the oldest inhabitants of Peninsular
Malaysia which definitely add on to the suspense on what we would be
served as rumour has it that the owner married a Orang Asli
babe!
Enough said, lets dive
down to the food....glorious food!!

Steam Seabass Teochew Style (Rm35)
|
As we know its not the ingredients that defines a
good "fish dish" but the freshness & time control that plays the
main part in its failure/success, KUDOS to this dish! Perfectly handled!!

Butter Sotong (Rm18) |
Personally this wasn't
to my liking, as the fragrance of the butter did not bring the dish to its
fullest potential and a tad too oily! (understand that butter should be oily
la, but its tooo much!). But to redeem it the batter coating was crispy &
light.

Chilli
Crab (Rm63)
|
The appearance of this dish I would say wasn't too
impressive, but when dived into the sauce the bursting of flavours made us
scooped on further. The freshness of crab can be tasted by the shreds of flesh being ripped off from the well cracked hard shells

Sambal
Sweet Potato Leave (Rm14)

Garlic
Lala (Rm12)
|
Was recommended by the waitress to go for the garlic
stir-fry as the catch was fresh, true enough it was the best dish we had!
Additional thumbs-up for the honesty of this dish, as most of the time we feel
cheated by dishes with shells as we tend to shells more than the treasure
itself!

Tables fully laid out awaiting the evening crowd.

Total damage for 4 pax
|
We were shocked by the total amount! Given all the
items that we had working out to about SGD$61 for the 4 of us was quite a
steal!! This amount would usually have covered us normal zichar (without seafood) at the
kopitiam!

Halal friendly!

Final verdict.......nowhere better
to experience a sunset dinner than Restorant Todak!
Plus
(+) Point:
√ Spacious parking areas at the
entrance of the restaurant
√ Even though without air-con the natural
breeze was good enough
√ Food served fast one after another
√ Wallet friendly
√ Able to tap back to SG data
Minus
(-) Point:
× Tough getting in & out without
a vehicle
× Can be really crowded if closer to
peak hours (6pm-8pm)
× As restaurant is above the
coastal, during low tides the air is not “not so fresh” due to the debris
